Who we are
MuteMyName ("we", "us") is a service that helps people remove their personal information from people-search websites. This policy explains what we collect through mutemyname.com and how we use it.
What we collect
For the free exposure check:
- Your first name
- Your email address
- Your city and state, if you choose to give them (this helps us match the right listings)
Only if you sign up for removal: we may ask for more details, such as your full name, past addresses, phone numbers, or age, because people-search sites need these to find and remove the right listings. We'll tell you what we need and why at the time we ask.
We don't ask for your Social Security number or bank details to run a check.
Why we collect it
We use your information only to:
- Run your exposure scan of people-search sites
- Submit and follow up on removal requests, if you sign up for removal
- Contact you about your check, your removals, and your account
We never sell or share your data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we don't share it with advertisers or data brokers. The only time your details go to another website is when we send a removal request to a people-search site on your behalf, and then only what that site needs to find and remove your listing.
We use a small number of service providers to run the business (for example, our form and email providers). They may process your information only to provide their service to us.
No ad pixels or tracking
We don't use advertising pixels, ad trackers, or third-party advertising cookies on this site. Our fonts and files are hosted by us, not by an ad network.
How long we keep it
- If you only do the free check and don't sign up: we delete your scan results within 30 days. We keep your name and email on our waitlist so we can contact you, until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- If you sign up for removal: we keep your information while your account is active, so we can keep checking for re-listings.
- Any time: you can ask us to delete your information and we will.
How to ask us to delete your data
Email [email protected] from the address you signed up with and say you'd like your data deleted. We may ask you to confirm the request so we know it's really you. You can also unsubscribe from our emails using the link in any email we send.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and limiting who can access it. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep only what we need, which limits what could be exposed.
Children
This service is meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant, we'll let you know by email.
